3D scanning can be useful when the shape of a surface matters, when many surface locations need review or when physical geometry needs to be captured for further engineering work. The best approach depends on part size, surface properties, feature access and the required level of detail. Share the purpose of the scan so capture requirements can be discussed before selecting equipment.
Provide the reference CAD model, drawing information and the surfaces or features of interest. Explain how the part will be referenced and what the comparison needs to show. Capturing a surface and evaluating it against a model are separate parts of a project. Agreeing on alignment, evaluation scope and output requirements helps avoid collecting data that does not answer the engineering question.
Surface finish, reflectivity, hidden geometry and access can influence how a part is scanned. Large assemblies and intricate features may call for different setups. Include photographs and approximate dimensions, and identify any restrictions on handling or surface preparation. Discuss whether the project needs surface capture, dimensional evaluation or support for a reverse engineering workflow.
Whether you need dimensional inspection, support for your CMM or equipment information, tell us about your application.
