Site scanning focuses on capturing the geometry of larger spaces, structures and installed equipment. A tripod-mounted scanner can record visible surfaces from selected positions, while additional positions may be needed around obstructions. The planning discussion should identify the area to document, the level of detail needed and how the captured geometry will be used by the engineering team.
Explain the equipment or space to be scanned, access conditions and the engineering or maintenance question behind the work. Interior geometry, liners and installed components may require a carefully scoped capture plan. Site access and operating conditions should be coordinated with the facility. Scanning requirements should reflect the specific location rather than assuming a single setup suits every mining project.
Identify the area that needs to be documented, permitted access and the intended use of the spatial record. Existing photographs, site plans and the required deliverables can help define the capture scope. Coordinate access with the responsible site representatives and discuss any restrictions before the visit. The service scope should clearly describe the geometry being recorded and the documentation expected.
