How do we choose the right CMM?

Begin with your largest and smallest parts, required tolerances, feature access and expected inspection volume. Measuring travel is only one part of the decision: probing options, software, fixturing and the operating environment also affect suitability. Drawings and a representative inspection task help frame an equipment discussion around what your team needs to measure, rather than comparing machines by size alone.

What should we review when considering a pre-owned machine?

Ask about the machine configuration, controller, software licensing, probe system, maintenance history and available performance documentation. Clarify what is included in the proposed equipment package and what would require separate arrangements. Installation, training, transportation and future support can affect the overall project. Equipment availability and condition should be confirmed for the specific machine under consideration.

What does our facility need before installation?

Review floor space, delivery access, utilities and the environmental requirements of the selected equipment. Consider space for operators, parts and fixtures as well as the machine itself. Temperature changes, vibration and air supply may influence the installation plan. Share photographs or a floor layout early so site preparation and equipment selection can be discussed together.
